Community Impact
The women of the Junior League of Owensboro are dedicated to giving their time, talents, and resources for the betterment of the local community in and around Daviess County, Ky. In 2023, we defined our new community impact area to focus on hygiene accessibility, which is a widespread social concern in our area. Poor hygiene has significant negative impacts on physical and mental health and is connected to social stigma. Children facing hygiene poverty may be unable to focus and learn due to anxiety or bullying about personal hygiene.
With one in three U.S. households struggling to afford basic hygiene products, and nearly ⅔ of households in poverty in Daviess County alone headed by single mothers, hygiene poverty is a need in our area for which the Junior League is working to raise awareness and provide relief.
The Junior League currently offers four Free Laundry Days each year, during which volunteer members distribute laundry supplies—including soap, dryer sheets, and quarters for machines—to patrons in need. We also provide healthy snacks and activities for children who may be forced to wait while their families do laundry.
Everything our League does is in pursuit of increasing hygiene accessibility in Daviess County.
