Focus Area
During our 2019-2020 League year we will serve our community using our members’ diverse talents, time and money raised through our organized fundraisers. JLO is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. All of our programs and activities are supported by League membership dues, foundation and corporate grants and other fund-development efforts.
We educate and train our members who, in turn, put their knowledge to practice in helping the Owensboro/Daviess County community. During this League year, we will improve the current and future resident workforce through a healthy Owensboro projects.
As we start a new JLO year we will begin our eighth year of our Signature Project. Although we’ve already been doing weekend food back packs through the foodbank, hosting exciting Kids in the Kitchen events all year long, and coordinated events to promote healthy living. This year, JLO leadership will strive to find new issues, concepts and motivators to get the entire community involved and living a healthier life!
In addition to the Signature Project, will will also contribute our money and “womanpower!” to the following activities and events:
- purchasing, soliciting and collecting layette supplies to make into layettes. Layettes are necessary baby items, conveniently packaged, to be provided to new Mothers in need by Registered Nurses in the home visiting programs of the Green River District Health Department.
- joining hundreds of other Leagues across the country in educating young people how to implement healthy choices into their eating habits through the fun and interactive Kids in the Kitchen program;
- plus, many other volunteer opportunities in the Owensboro area.
