Projects & EventsSIGNATURE PROJECTCharged with a mission of improving our community through the effective action of trained women and a vision to cultivate programs that aid underserved families, Junior League of Owensboro members are active in a variety of local community projects. Currently, League members are focusing on a Reading Initiative Signature Project that develops and improves local Early Learning programs with an emphasis on literacy for children from birth to age five. The Reading Initiative continues to develop, but current activities include:
DONE-IN-A-DAY PROJECTSJunior League of Owensboro members also support a variety of other community projects through “Done in a Day” events and short term funding grants. Done in a Day projects are planned for completion in just a few hours. While preparation takes time, the actual event should be accomplished with a few hours of actual volunteer time from League members. The 2007-2008 Done in a Day events include:
SHORT TERM FUNDINGThis line-item makes small grants available to area programs requesting funds less than $500. Community Research Committee receives the applications and awards the short term funding amounts on a case-by-case basis throughout the year. In 1969, the Cotillion Club joined the Association of Junior Leagues International and officially became the Junior League of Owensboro.
