Community

Junior League of Owensboro members also support a variety of other community projects through “Done in a Day” events and short term funding grants. Done in a Day projects are planned for completion in just a few hours. While preparation takes time, the actual event should be accomplished with a few hours of actual volunteer time from League members.

The current Done in a Day events include:

  • CASA, Foster Care, Children in Need Christmas Party!  Come celebrate the true meaning of Christmas at The Edge Ice Arena.  Skate, drink hot chocolate or other yummy drinks and food, get a FREE book of your choice. A special mystery guest may sure to come – if you’ve been good this year!  Ho Ho Ho!
  • Kids in the Kitchen – Visit the Kids in the Kitchen site here.  Check out pictures from piror KITK events, and watch this video about the program.  With the continued success fo KITK, JLO will be moving this program away from a Done in a Day to a full-time Community Event schedule.
  • Layette Community Drives and Assembly  – Needed baby items are provided in “layettes” to area Mothers identified by the home visiting programs of the Green River District Health Department.  A trained nurse goes into homes for parenting education and may use the layettes for the most needy of Mothers.

If you would like to suggest a “Done in a Day” event, please contact our Community Council Chairperson.
